What's your NYE hashtag?
Every year Jerry and I host a New Year's Eve party. We invite some of our close friends to just hang out and play board games. This year I have planned a photo booth and ordered props for people to use. Nothing fancy, just something fun for people to enjoy. Of course, I know that many people will post these to social media and I want a way to view the photos afterwards. Thus, the use of the hashtag!
Here are my tips for creating a hashtag.
Make it Unique
The purpose of our hashtag is to be able to find photos that people took after the event is over. Having a hashtag that is only being used by the people at your party is key! After all, you don't want it to be so generic that you can't find the fun that was had at your event.
Make it easy to remember
The easier it is to remember the more likely people will use it. The use of alliteration is helpful, for example #RingInRivenbark or #ChampagneCheers. Another good idea is to use homophones if you can. The best one I've seen is #BoosandBooze for a Halloween event that our friends throw every year. The more clever the hashtag the easier it is to remember.
Make it related to the event
If it's a birthday party use the person's name and age if you can. It it's a Christmas party use Christmas related words, Santa, reindeer, jingle bells, Rudolph. If it's an event with an acronym that works too!
Keep It Simple
Don't make your hashtag too long, simple is better. While you want to be clever, you don't need a hashtag that should be used as regular description text. For example, #NYEphotoboothattheRivenbarks is just too much.
Will you have a hashtag for your New Year's party or other event? I'd love to hear it!
