10 Things to Ask Your Future Employer
Over the past month or so I have been on a hiring committee to select a new Service Desk Manager for the School of Government. We had a fantastic number of qualified candidates and were posed a lot of great questions by these candidates. I thought I would share fantastic questions (both posed by our candidates and some from my personal arsenal) that you can ask your future employer should you ever need to interview for another position.
- What are the top 3 qualities you expect your next employee to have?
- What kind of pain is your organization having that needs fixing?
- What would you expect the new hire to accomplish in the first 90 days of employment?
- What immediate goals do you have for this position? And what long term goals do you have?
- How do you measure success/employee performance?
- What is the biggest learning curve for whoever takes this position?
- Talk about a recent event that your organization put on. What was a success and what do you hope to improve for next time?
- What is the best part of your job and what do you wish you could change?
- What is it like to work here? Describe the culture like within the organization.
- What kind of opportunities do you offer for continuing education?
Bonus Tip
You can and should respond to the interviewer after you ask a question to provide examples of how you can best serve the organization you're interviewing with. Take every opportunity you can to sell yourself.
Happy interviewing!
