Birth: According to my four-year-old

My four-year-old was so excited the other day to tell me that he shared his toy with his younger brother. “Mama,” he said, “I shared my toys with Steele." (Our one-year-old)

“That’s wonderful Gardner!” I said enthusiastically.

“Mama, I’m going to share my toys with Jerry too!” he continued. Jerry is our fourth child, that is currently still in my belly “cooking.”

“You are?” I asked. “That would be so nice to share with him too.”

“Yes!” he exclaimed. “When Jerry comes out of your mouth, then I will share my toys with him.”

I did a double-take and couldn’t help but smile. In his mind if food goes into your mouth and into your belly, then obviously that’s how the baby would have to come out. I mean… obviously. What other options could there be?

“I’m pretty sure that’s not how it works Gardner. Jerry doesn’t come out of my mouth, he comes out of my belly.”

Gardner thought for a second and then said, “Mama, you ate Jerry?”

“No, Gardner, I didn’t eat Jerry, I’m just growing him.”

“You drank some water? And then Jerry will get big and come out of your mouth?”

It’s a work in progress with that one. I plan to continue to tell him that’s not how it works. That seems to be enough for him at the moment, and the laughter I got from his comments are one for the books.

Out of the mouth of babes, comes the best gems!

And for your entertainment a re-enactment of what my awesome four year old told me. Enjoy!
