So today's post is about something new! Welcome to the new Events Simplified blog. It struck me last week as I was listening to varoius podcasts about parenting, being happier, and blogging that maybe it was time to make this blog thing look a little more professional. Thus, Event Driven was created.
Design
As a government event planner focused solely on providing education to public officials and court officials in the state of North Carolina I rarely have a chance to bring out my creative side. At my previous job with Rider University, I was able to flex this creative muscle through marketing materials. I had some creative control over the information that we were putting out to our clients. This is a part of my job that I sometimes miss.
When I left my job at Rider in 2011, I was able to sate myself because about a year into my new job at UNC I was planning my wedding. I scoured Pinterest for the best ideas. I had complete design control over the flowers, centerpieces, cupcakes, decor, and the bridesmaid dresses. Fortunately, the bridesmaids and I completely agreed on a dress and color and were so helpful in the entire process (especially because they were located in New Jersey, North Carolina, Seattle, and Thailand at the time we were shopping).
Now don't get me wrong, I have an absolutely fantastic job at the UNC School of Government and I wouldn't trade it for the world. On the flip side, I don't have the talent of being able to sketch things, it's all stick figures for me! Thus, completely changing my job pursuit is really not the way I want to head. I just need a taste of creative endeavors from time to time and I have a slight knack for design, which helps. I decided that this was a need that I wanted to fulfill. If my job has limited opportunities for me then I should just create it. Why not?
I worked on a new logo this week for Events Simplified and here's what I've come up with. I know some of you will get it, but I also like that if you don't it's a great conversation starter!
Website
I mentioned in a previous post that the School of Government is working towards launching a new website. Of course, transferring their old website to the new one is quite a feat since it contains thousands of pages. Yet, I think when it is officially launches the new look will be current for the times. At that time, we will be seeking feedback from our clients as we try and make the client experience better. This leads me to my final point.
Feedback
So now I need to ask you, the loyal audience, what do you think? Do you like my new website? What should I change? Do you think a good website makes a difference when you work with an organization or hotel or other event service? Please, please, please leave your comments below!
