You are a stay-at-home parent who helps to get back into the workforce or launch your own company. And you need to expand your knowledge and skill set beforehand. Returning to school can seem like an intimidating prospect, especially when you’re juggling childcare and other responsibilities. But with the right combination of planning and determination, nothing can stop you from accomplishing your goals! Today, Danielle Rivenbark shares some tips to help you get started.

Determining a Field or Industry

Your first step to re-entering the workforce or starting a business is to determine the specific field or industry you will pursue. Don’t make this decision lightly; think about the kind of job or business you would be happiest doing. Consider your skills and interests, and research different fields that align with them. Here are a few to consider:

  • Healthcare management

  • Health service coordination

  • Nursing

  • Information technology (IT)

If you plan to launch a business, you may be best served by pursuing a degree in business management, marketing, communication, or a related field. Once you’ve narrowed down your options, choose the one that best suits your ambitions and goals.

Attending an Affordable Online University

Now, it’s time to look for an affordable online university that offers either a degree program related to your field/industry or certifications that will provide relevant knowledge and experience in the subject matter. Be sure to thoroughly research any university you’re considering before enrolling; read reviews from current and former students, and contact the admissions department if necessary.

Creating a New Resume

Before seeking a new position, it’s critical to update your resume with any recent work experience and new qualifications obtained in school. And you can use a PDF maker to make sure your resume looks professional and is easy to send online. Be sure to include all relevant information in your resume (e.g., education history, professional accomplishments, awards, etc.) so employers will take notice when they review it. Also, consider adding keywords related to the position in question to help employers’ search engines find your resume faster; this will increase your chances of being called in for an interview!

Striking a Balance

It’s no secret that managing studies, work and business obligations, and family commitments is no easy feat. After all, all three require significant time and energy! Setting yourself achievable yet challenging goals each day can help you stay on track. The best way to manage your goals is to create (and stick to) a weekly schedule that assigns certain days and times for each responsibility.

Don’t forget about your well-being in the process! You should have at least one day a week where you allocate time just for yourself; this will give you something positive to look forward to after long days of working hard to achieve success in every area of your life. Here are a few other strategies for finding a healthy balance:

  1. Prioritize your tasks. Don’t try to do everything, but focus on the most important items first and make sure they get done.

  2. Create boundaries between work and home life. For instance, you could designate specific areas in your home for studying that you can close off when your day is done; that way, you can enjoy quality family time without worrying about unfinished tasks!

  3. Ask for help. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people when you need support, whether it’s getting a reliable babysitter or having a family member watch the kids as you study or run errands.

Summary

By making preparations and staying determined, you can return to school while managing your parenting responsibilities successfully! Start by deciding which field or industry to pursue, researching various online universities, and crafting a top-notch resume. And be intentional about creating a work-life balance you can rely on. Following these tips and finding other strategies that work for your situation is key to flourishing in every area and building a fulfilling life!
