I know the title intrigues you because I've consistently written about the very funny things my husband Jerry says to our doctor and during labor. He always keeps me laughing, but this post will be a little different.
A few weeks ago we were sitting on the couch enjoying our newest addition, Caitiejane. Jerry was gazing at her as she slept peacefully on his chest. I could tell he was really enjoying the moment. At this age, she sleeps amazingly in his arms. He was gently rubbing her back when he said,
“I didn’t know how empty my life was until I had you [Caitiejane] and Gardner. Now my life is complete.”
This statement absolutely melted my heart. It was true, we thought we had everything, then we had kids. While our possessions will never truly be ours again, our hearts will also never be the same.
Jerry and I try to maintain a hierarchy in our lives, devoted to God, one another, and our kids. Still, the love we have for our kids is astounding. I know we aren't the only parents that feel this way about their kids, so this shouldn't be groundbreaking by any means. Yet, the love we feel is overwhelming.
These days with two kids under two, we have little time for one another, but our kids have also brought us closer together, as we try and maintain our roles as husband and wife first.
I adore the relationship that my husband has with our kids. He and Gardner are best buddies, and he is smitten over his little girl, Caitiejane.
Yes, sometimes Jerry has some crass things to say, and sometimes his statements are poorly timed (see these three previous posts about "He Said What" to understand why). This however, is not one of those statements.
I couldn't have said it better if I tried. Being parents has brought us such joy! Fatherhood is a good look for you Jerry!
